        甲骨文“农”字从林、从森、从辰，像手持“辰”（蚌镰）这种农具耕于草木之中，表示耕作之意。卜辞用作神祇名、祭名、地名。六书中属于会意。

        The oracle bone script form of the Chinese character“农” （nóng） combines the elements“林” （lín），“森” （sēn），and“辰” （chén）expressing the sense of agriculture. It visually depicts a figure holding a“辰” （chén），a clamshell sickle，while cultivating the land amidst vegetation. In divinatory inscriptions，this character was used as the name of a deity，a sacrificial term and a place name.
